Mobility Month

Throughout May, the community is invited to join Charleston Moves for their Mobility Month program, an annual celebration of “complete streets, providing safe street and bridge access for all.” The organization says this year’s series is aimed at bringing the community together to “elevate multi-modal accomplishments, provide updates on the organization’s priority projects, and offer calls to action, as well as volunteer opportunities, to advance the local people-powered movement.” Due to COVID, the program will be held both virtually and on-your-own-time. May Giving Challenge

Lowcountry Land Trust is hosting a May Giving Challenge with the goal of raising $150,000 to celebrate its anniversary and further its work protecting vital Lowcountry lands and waterways.  This year, Lowcountry Land Trust is celebrating its 35th anniversary and approaching a new milestone: preserving 500 properties encompassing 150,000 total acres. TOAST Cooking Class: Pie with Katy Powers (Neighborhood Dining Group)

Bread + Butter is excited to announce that is will continue its TOAST series of cooking lessons for the public based on our in class curriculum. Each class will focus on a specific culinary skill or technique and be led by a chef expert on that topic.  The TOAST Series continues on February 23rd with the traditional donation-based class offerings. Classes will cover a variety of topics from fish butchery to Filipino fare. The full slate of chef instructors and topics is included below. TOAST Cooking Class: Pie with Katy Powers (Neighborhood Dining Group)

Bread + Butter on Friday announced that it will be continuing its popular TOAST series of cooking lessons in the new year with the first online class taking place February 11th. To kick off the season, Bread + Butter will host a special Valentine’s Day class that includes a kit featuring two whole live Maine lobsters, a bottle of wine curated by Winebow to pair with the lobster, and a 90 minute virtual cooking class with Chef Micheal Tuohy, founder of Fullhouse Hospitality. Charleston RiverDogs Home Game

The Charleston RiverDogs, the Low-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, have announced their schedule for the 2021 season. Mobility Month

Mobility Month

Flight Demonstration

Flight Demonstration - Thursday & Saturday morning at 10:30 am (This one is weekly forever.) The Center has reopened its doors to visitors to explore the interesting and important world of raptors through an outdoor program, flight demonstration and a virtually guided tour. Through natural history discussion and observation of flight techniques and hunting styles, visitors come to a better understanding of these majestic creatures and the significant role they play as apex avian predators. 11th Annual Gimme Shelter

Home Team BBQ’s downtown location will host the 11th Annual Gimme Shelter event on Thursday, May 20th. May Giving Challenge

Lowcountry Land Trust is hosting a May Giving Challenge with the goal of raising $150,000 to celebrate its anniversary and further its work protecting vital Lowcountry lands and waterways.  This year, Lowcountry Land Trust is celebrating its 35th anniversary and approaching a new milestone: preserving 500 properties encompassing 150,000 total acres. The May Giving Challenge will take place May 17th to May 23rd. As fundraising benchmarks are reached throughout the week, $45,000 in combined challenge funds from the Pathfinder Foundation, Silent Maid, and Painted Bunting Fund will be unlocked. To date, the nonprofit organization has protected more than 147,000 acres across 17 counties in South Carolina. Mobility Month

Throughout May, the community is invited to join Charleston Moves for their Mobility Month program, an annual celebration of “complete streets, providing safe street and bridge access for all.” The organization says this year’s series is aimed at bringing the community together to “elevate multi-modal accomplishments, provide updates on the organization’s priority projects, and offer calls to action, as well as volunteer opportunities, to advance the local people-powered movement.” Due to COVID, the program will be held both virtually and on-your-own-time. PURE Theatre announced that they will virtually host a three-part virtual play reading series, "Bearing Witness," produced in partnership with the Charleston Arts Festival and Buxton Books. The series will start on July 17th with Denmark: Every Man Has a Story, a new play by Ade Ofunniyin. This will be followed on July 31st with a leap to the 1968 Detroit riots with Last Rites. This play premiered at PURE in August 2019 and was written by PURE Core Ensemble member Randy Neale.
