How to read the search and filter results panel

A search results panel appears above the calendar after you type a term in the Search box and click Go and/or select one or more values in a Filter list.

The Search box

Filter lists

The search and filter results panel looks something like this. The information in the panel is explained below.

An example of what you might see in the search and filter results panel. For more details, see the lettered bullets below.

  1. The first line tells you whether or not any events in the calendar match your search and/or filter settings. That line might say:

No events match your search criteria This means that no events in the entire calendar contain the terms that you searched for and/or the filter values you chose.

No events in this view match your search criteria This means that no events in the currently-displayed calendar view match the terms that you searched for and/or the filter values you chose. For example, if you're looking at the month of June, you'll see this message if events that match your search criteria occur in July.

The displayed events match the search criteria listed below This means that all of the events on the calendar that match your search or filter criteria are listed in the current view.

  2. When events match your search or filter criteria but don't appear in the currently-displayed calendar view, click the previous and next buttons at the top of the calendar to see the events. The buttons look like this:

In Month, Week, Day and other grid views

In List, 3 Column, Table, and other list views

When both buttons are highlighted (as shown above), events that match your search or filter criteria appear in future and past calendar views. When no events in the past, future, or the entire calendar match your search criteria, the appropriate buttons are dimmed.

  3. If events that match your search or filter criteria don't appear in the currently-displayed view, click Show List of Events to list all the matching events. Clicking this link changes the view to List. To return to a different view, find the view chooser near the calendar and choose the view you want.
  4. Your search criteria are listed here. For example, for this search, we typed "iaido" in the Search box and chose "Master Wu" from the Instructor filter list. To remove a search term or filter, click Clear.

How filters work

Filters allow you to limit the events you see on a calendar to only those events that match specific criteria.

For example, the Ajenza Martial Arts studio might add Instructor and Level filters to its calendar. This gives you the ability to limit the events you see by who teaches a class and what student level a class is aimed at.

There are four different calendar filtering options that you might encounter. Look for the filter or filters below that resemble the ones you see.

Single-value filters

Filters that look like this are single-value filters. With single value filters, you can select only one value at a time.

Selecting one instructor from this filter allows you to limit the events you see on the Ajenza Martial Arts calendar to classes taught by that instructor.

Multiple-values filters

Filters that look like this are multiple-values filters. With multiple-values filters, you can select more than one value at a time.

The filter in this example allows you to limit the events you see on the Ajenza Martial Arts calendar to classes aimed at one or more student levels. For example, you can search for all classes available to students at an advanced or permission required level.

Tip To quickly select or deselect all values in a multiple-values filter (and display or hide all events on the calendar), at the bottom of the filter, for Select, click All or None.

Independent filters

If you immediately see two or three filters, it means that you can select values in any filter or in all filters to limit the events you see. Each filter can be either be a single- or multiple-value filter.

For example, the two filters displayed above allow you to limit the events you see on the Ajenza Martial Arts calendar to:

  • Classes taught by one instructor.
  • Or, classes aimed a specific student level.
  • Or, classes taught by one instructor and aimed at a specific student level.

Dependent filters

If you select a value in the first filter and only then see a second filter, the second filter is dependent upon the first. If you select a value in the second filter, and only then see a third filter, the third filter is dependent upon the first two filters. (You'll never see more than three filters.)

For example, first you select an instructor in the top filter displayed above to limit the events you see on the Ajenza Martial Arts Studio calendar to classes taught by one instructor. Then, the Level filter becomes visible, where you can select one or more values to further limit the displayed events.
