Looking to ski and serve? The Outdoor Emergency Care Technician course, beginning September 9th, 2010, is the first step to becoming a National Ski Patroller at Montana Snowbowl in Missoula. This year's course will be taught on Monday and Thursday nights from 6:00-9:00pm and will run from September through December. The approximate cost of the Outdoor Emergency Care and the Ski, Snowboard & Toboggan course is $350, including materials. While there are currently still several more spots available for this class, it is filling up quickly; if you or anyone you know (ages 16 and up) is interested in joining the National Ski Patrol, please contact snowbowlskipatrol@gmail.com before August 19th, 2010 to secure your position on our roster.

Artist Reception and Gallery Talk: August 6, 5-8 pm
Missoula artist Peter Keefer has been working on the series since 1981. Inspired by historical events, these contemporary, expressive works are collage drawings intended to represent the actions of the political and military participants most involved in “The Great War” of 1914-1918. Keefer states, “We all seem to be against war, but it still keeps happening.” The artist identified some of the most important individuals that contributed to the chaos that was World War I then created a series of larger drawings about these personalities, and smaller works that reference the individual battles of the war.
The collages include photography, ink on Mylar, or a section of oil on canvas mounted on larger paper and drawn around with the subject’s (so-called) accomplishments in mind. The drawings are oil pastel and pencil wash.

MAM is proud to display six wood engravings by Missoula artist Claire Emery that capture the civic spirit of our fair community. The limited collector s edition of A Road Runs Through It is a special project of Wildlands CPR, a national conservation group that works to prevent off road vehicle abuse of public lands and promotes watershed restoration through road removal.
The set includes a leather-bound, numbered copy of the collection of essays A Road Runs Through It: Reviving Wild Places, signed by all 26 living contributors, and the set of six signed and numbered wood engravings by Emery. Supporters of MAM and Wildlands CPR raised the money to purchase and donate the book and prints to MAM s Permanent Collections.

Missoula artist Peter Keefer has been working on the series since 1981. Inspired by historical events, these contemporary, expressive works are collage drawings intended to represent the actions of the political and military participants most involved in “The Great War” of 1914-1918. Keefer states, “We all seem to be against war, but it still keeps happening.” The artist identified some of the most important individuals that contributed to the chaos that was World War I then created a series of larger drawings about these personalities, and smaller works that reference the individual battles of the war.
The collages include photography, ink on Mylar, or a section of oil on canvas mounted on larger paper and drawn around with the subject’s (so-called) accomplishments in mind. The drawings are oil pastel and pencil wash.

MAM is proud to display six wood engravings by Missoula artist Claire Emery that capture the civic spirit of our fair community. The limited collector s edition of A Road Runs Through It is a special project of Wildlands CPR, a national conservation group that works to prevent off road vehicle abuse of public lands and promotes watershed restoration through road removal.
The set includes a leather-bound, numbered copy of the collection of essays A Road Runs Through It: Reviving Wild Places, signed by all 26 living contributors, and the set of six signed and numbered wood engravings by Emery. Supporters of MAM and Wildlands CPR raised the money to purchase and donate the book and prints to MAM s Permanent Collections.

"The power of the parable lies in its ability to speak directly about our reality while existing completely outside of that reality," states photographer Joshua Meier about his new exhibition of photographs at MAM. A traditional parable is a succinct story, fictitious in nature and with a moral or religious lesson that touches on a universal truth. Meier carefully and meticulously stages models and props to create his photographs of visual parables. The images certainly evoke surrealism, with dream-like worlds and improbable scenarios, but they are more. The artist crafts each individual narrative from personal milestones, frustrations, doubts, sadness, and joy. "Like a parable," Meier says, "each image is a distillation of my own reality as it relates to the greater society."
This body of work represents 8 years of creative and personal struggle, examination, and growth…
