Kee has often been compared to gospel music legend the Reverend James Cleveland, and the sheer power of Kee's voice is reminiscent of Shirley Ceaser and Edwin Hawkins.
BET HONORS

Warner Theatre, 1299 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC
Saturday, January 17, 2009, 8pm

Red-carpet watchers will want to take note of the BET Honors as they celebrate legendary songstress Mary J. Blige; groundbreaking filmmaker Tyler Perry; celebrated dancer and choreographer Judith Jamison; businessman, philanthropist and basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson; B. Smith for her success as an entrepreneur; and the Congressman James E. Clyburn. "We are thrilled to kick off this historic inauguration weekend with the return of the BET Honors, a truly inspirational event that pays tribute to extraordinary individuals in our community," said Debra L. Lee, chairman and chief executive officer of BET Networks. “And it couldn’t have worked out more perfectly that the BET Honors and the Inauguration are happening within days of each other, as President-elect Barack Obama epitomizes all that we had in mind when we first put this show together. I’m certain that this year’s BET HONORS will be even more poignant and powerful than we could have ever imagined.”

Web link: www.bet.com…

More info: www.bet.com

INAUGURATION MADNESS

National Museum of Dentistry, 31 S. Greene Street, Baltimore, MD
Sunday, January 18, 2009, 1 – 4pm

Celebrate the inauguration of the 44th president of the United States by taking a look back at George Washington’s big day and his legendary “wooden” teeth. The first president only had one tooth when he took office in 1789, and dental troubles kept him from giving an inaugural address the second time around. On Sunday, January 18, enjoy $1 admission and see George Washington’s famous dentures in a gallery devoted to his tooth troubles. The museum will be decked out for the inauguration, and visitors can take a toothy presidential scavenger hunt to see one of four existing Washington dentures in the world (and none of them are made of wood!), iron forceps made to pull one of Washington's teeth on the Revolutionary War battlefield, examples of portraits that show the effect of his tooth loss during his presidency, and details about the president's favorite dentist John Greenwood.
Cost: $1.00 / 410-706-0052

More info: www.dentalmuseum.org

VIVIAN GREEN

Birchmere Music Hall, 3701 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA
Friday, January 23, 2009, 7:30pm

Vivian Green grew up in Philadelphia, where she started singing at an early age. She began playing the piano at age eight and writing songs when she was 11. At 13, she joined a girl group called Younique. She spent her teens writing, sending out demos, and singing wherever she could. Her break came when she was hired as a backup singer for Jill Scott, who took her on tour internationally. That connection eventually led to record company interest, and Green signed to Columbia Records in November 2001. Her debut album, A Love Story, was released one year later. Vivian followed in 2005.
Cost: $35.00 / (703) 549-7500

More info: www.ticketmaster.com
