<gc:about type="string">In this workshop we will learn 5 traditional kirtan songs on the harmonium and touch on the tamboura and kartal playing, so that one can start their own kirtan band, or play for their yoga class. The chanting of the kirtan will also be explored.

The Temple Bhajan Band is a group of devotional chanters that tours national Yoga Studios, Festivals, Retreats, and various social events. They have been together for over 9 years. Recently at festivals and other engagemnets, their blend of music has been coined as "Kirtan Dance Party". While Sura sings to the accompaniment of the harmonium, he leads the rest of the members on instruments such as the sitar, tamboura, kartals, flute, ektar, cello, djiembe, and mrdunga drum in a dynamic symphony that creates the "Kirtan Dance Party". The Temple Bhajan Band plays ancient Vedic bhajans, which include mantras and chants from spiritual India. Many of the chants are done in a responsive fashion where the audience can participate and experience the purifying pleasure of the chanting.

Biography:
Sura has been teaching harmonium/kirtan workshops for over 5 years and played himself for 35 years. He was trained in guitar since 8 years old and has transferred that propensity to kirtan music.

"In Sanskrit, Chakra translates into wheel, or disk. Chakras are energy centers; think of them as the software to the bodies hardware. There are seven major chakras that run down the center of the body and relate to the seven major nerve ganglia that extend from the spine. lAmong other things chakras correlate to elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, bodily functions.

These energy centers in the subtle body form the bridge between our solid physical ground and our vast consciousness. Through the chakras you can learn to travel the bridge, up to liberate, down to manifest, in and out to relate to the world around you.

Events include Weekly Chakracize classes. Workshops. and Monthly Meetups to share Chakra experiences.

This group is open to all chakra seekers, both those new to the concept of chakras, and those more knowledgeable that are both looking to learn and experience more as well as share what they know.

Sharon will explore these questions in an informal discussion and book signing.

<gc:about type="string">What if there was a way to tell if you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency? Or, if you have a compromised immune system? Does the body give us clues about our general health long before we would normally sense those conditions? Surprisingly, the health of the entire body is closely linked to the health of the mouth. The eyes may be the windows to your soul but the mouth is the gateway to your body! Your mouth is one of the early warning areas of the body.
This PowerPoint presentation, will show you why understanding your mouth can add years to your life. Topics of discussion include:
What your tongue can tell you.
Non surgical methods of reducing periodontal disease, which is linked to a
variety of systemic health problems including diabetes, respiratory illness,
    pregnancy complications, and heart disease.
Do you have fillings, crowns, or cavities??
Do you brush your teeth but decay still occurs. Why?
It’s not about brushing and flossing.
Bad Breath ??? it’s more then a social problem.

<gc:about type="string">Meet Frances! Frances Ktenas is an intuitive tarot reader & advisor and has been reading for over 16 years. She can read a person's soul, sense their needs and experience their energy. Growing up, she would finish people's thoughts and conversations before they got a chance to say them and knew things before they happened. It never occurred to her that this wasn't normal for everyone.

Frances wanted to study psychology but instead studied engineering in college and marketing in graduate school. As a result of consequences from a personal tragedy, she received an unexpected gift of running a printing company in the city. It was there, in an elevator one day, that Frances was given her first tarot deck by a relative stranger -- a true calling, and one that she knows was divined. She began studying and learning and of course reading for anyone and everyone and she learned how to use her abilities.

Frances' gift is to see Light thru darkness. To show you your soul's path and to guide and empower you. Her style is loving, clear and above all inspirational. She uses the cards as a tool to offer you insight and her readings are enlightening, entertaining and always enchanting.

<gc:about type="string">An Aura Image Reading is an uplifting guide for helping you help yourself and others in these troubled times. It is common wisdom that over 80 to even 90% of communication is non-verbal. You hear what you say to others, an aura photo allows you to see your "vibe." An aura image photo allows you to literally see for yourself how your energy field projects itself. When you can see where your body's energy is strong and where it is weak you can effectively plan life changes to improve your wellbeing as well as how you are perceived. Hattie offers practical guidance on how to capitalize on your strengths and mitigate weaknesses in the reading.

Hattie utilizes the Biopulsar Aura Imaging Machine, which was invented by a German medical intuitive. People who see auras are amazed that the inventor has been so very adept in capturing images that otherwise are only accessible to a gifted few.

Biography:
Hattie has been offering guidance and intuitive readings using Aura Readings (as an “X-ray” of the psyche), Astrology and Numerology to leaders from business, professional sports, academia, medicine and the arts for over thirty years. Drawing on the wisdom gained from consulting divination tools, she guides people in making decisions that are consistent with personal values and in synch with timing cycles that will serve their best advantage.</gc:about>

Not only does the moon have a magnetic influence over the tides of the ocean, but also over the ebb & flow of our daily lives. The full moon represents the culmination of all our hopes and intentions rising to the level of consciousness on the physical plane. Each Full Moon is an opportunity to raise our awareness to consciously plant seeds of prosperity within our lives.

By working with sacred spiritual tools, meditation, breath, and music we will utilize the energy of the full moon to master our minds and control our destiny. The ceremony is a amazing way to understand the simple steps we can take to allow our inner light to shine and powerfully enhance our intuition. By working with this astral body we remove the obstacles to finding the answers & guidance we need to live with clarity, strength, and compassion. </gc:about>

<gc:about type="string">This four-week workshop provides the tools needed for finding your Authentic Voice, Movement, and Expression. Using both theatrical techniques and shamanic practices in the performance space, you will learn how to trust your inner truth and become an intuitive performer. With your body as a vessel for the spirit, your commitment to nurturing this relationship will extend beyond the individual to the collective body and spirit of the group, intuitively performing and manifesting together as one. In this day and age, however, the wisdom of these practices – theater and ritual – must be passed on. Once you have found the Universal, you will learn to experience it beyond the safety of an insular community, sharing in a shift toward global oneness.
Faculty: Parashakti, Rene Migliaccio, Marisa Clementi
Guest teachers: Daniel Pinchbeck, Jivamukti Yoga teachers

Workshop includes:
- Yogic trance movement
- Meditation in performance
- Shamanic character exploration
- Ritual and theater techniques of self-mastering
- Theater as spiritual practice
- Breaking out of the box
- Building collective consciousness of the Other
- Dance of Liberation
- Spiritual Nutrition
- Strengthening prana and chi
- Shift towards global oneness
- 5-Day Fast (optional)

Biography:
Rene Migliaccio (Co-Director), Artistic Director of Black Moon Theatre Company, teaches the fundamentals of “Expressionistic Realism”, a performance style which researches the intensity of emotions and exposes it through stylized articulation of the body. With this technique, Rene trains the body to become a translator for the content of the soul and fully surrender to the visions of the universal. Expressionism is the research of the total personal expression of the world. In a performance setting, the audience is permitted to live the performance as a ritual, a sanctified experience, an act of purification.

Parashakti (Co-Director) Internationally renowned Shamanic practitioner, founder & creator of “Dance of Liberation”. Parashakti integrates ancient healing modalities, innovative techniques in her worldwide workshops and trainings; an in depth experiential Culture of Life and Liberation dedicated lifestyle. Through movement, spiritual fasting, healing sounds, hypnotic percussive rhythms, transformational breathing techniques and the use of sensory deprivation through blindfolding while dancing, the ceremony takes the dancer into 'trance' state that promotes physical emotional release and spiritual awakening.

Marisa Clementi (Choreographer) is a dancer, singer, and certified holistic health counselor. Through her studies of numerous dance modalities, choreography, and her studies in Parashakti's Apprenticeship Program, Marisa gives participants the tools they need to maintain top physical condition for keeping the body as an open vessel for the spirit, and ultimately integrating spiritual practice with performance art.
Daniel Pinchbeck (Guest Faculty) has written for The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Wired, Harper's Bazaar, The Village Voice, Salon, and many other publications. In this workshop he will speak about his book, 2012: the Return of Quetzalcoatl, tracing the meaning of the Mayan Calendar and the imminent transition from one world to another prophesied by the Hopi Indians of Arizona, synthesizing the mysteries from indigenous cosmology and the Judeo-Christian Apocalypse to psychedelic visions and the current ecological crisis into a new vision for our time.

<gc:about type="string">Introduction to Flower Essence Therapy with Bach & FES Certified Linda Cohen is a foundational teaching in this time-honored holistic healing art which focuses on the mind/body connection in maintaining health and well-being. Flower essences have been used for centuries in healing. However, it is only with the pioneering work of Dr. Edward Bach, in England, in the 1920s and 1930s, that flower essences were studied, classified, tested in hundreds of case studies and finally offered to "the public" as a complete, simple, inclusive, inexpensive, all natural protocol for healing which could be made available to and used by all. Made from the blossoms of fresh flowers, Dr. Bach held that each flower he prepared as essence holds a key for healing a specific emotional imbalance. Terming his essences "the healing herbs," Dr. Bach evidenced that essences help to release negative emotional patterns and infuse positive "virtues" such as patience, faith, courage and optimism. Positive states of mind lead to better health on all levels (mental/spiritual/emotional/physical). Flower essences are non-harmful elixirs used with great success with children, pets and plants as well as adults.

Introduction to Flower Essence Therapy introduces the student to the history, application and current state of the art of flower essence treatment. Through taking this two-hour inter-active lecture (questions are welcome throughout), the student will learn of the life and work of Dr. Bach and of his brilliant holistic "view" of "dis-ease" and health – Bach, far ahead of his time, believed that negative emotions are a primary cause of disease - and of his simple, Nature-honoring methods for healing. They will also learn of the groundbreaking work of The Flower Essence Society (FES), since 1979, the current leader in this field in research, education, outreach to communities in need and in creating a thriving global community of flower essence practitioners. We will especially focus on using flower essences to clear stagnation from the past year(s) and to create visions, goals and affirmations for 2009.

Students will learn how to begin working with flower essences as well as employing synergistic healing supports (affirmations, journaling, creative self-expression…) for optimum results. They will be introduced to foundational flower essences which they can purchase at East West to begin their individual "adventures" in healing. They will learn the "context" of using flower essences in an overall health regimen and what flower essences are in relation to other vibrational modalities. How flower essences are prepared, stored, administered and used for long-term positive growth and change will also be covered.</gc:about>

		<gc:about type="string">The Spiritual Entrepreneurs Meet-up

Are you a spiritually-oriented entrepreneur or business owner/leader who is feeling stressed? Maybe you’re a bit anxious about your business prospects and personal grounding during this tumultuous economic time? You are not alone. The Spiritual Entrepreneurs Group is designed to bring together thoughtful, creative voices of “new paradigm” business leaders to create a sense of community and support.

We spiritually oriented business leaders are poised at the leading edge of a huge economic transformation that is occurring – and we need to learn from each other. We need to share best practices as we till the soil that will birth new kinds of businesses—businesses that are spiritually fulfilling, life enriching and earth sustaining.

Facilitated by Dr. Jeffrey Hull, a New York based psychologist, management consultant and executive coach, the group will provide a safe space for dialogue at the intersection of spirituality and business—perhaps a place that is no longer a new frontier, but still a challenging place for entrepreneurs to combine personal and business growth, especially now when the overall economy is in such turmoil.

Dr. Hull will bring fresh topics to each session and share his wisdom from twenty years of counseling and consulting to CEO’s and business leaders from many types of organizations, from smart technology start-ups and solo practitioners, to huge (and these days faltering) titans of financial services and big Pharma. Each evening session will include a short talk and plenty of time for questions, dialogue and group interaction.

Please join us! Bring your hearts, your business issues, your fears, and your business cards…and come learn, grow and share! Now is not the time to go it alone. For more information on Jeffrey Hull, Ph.D.’s work with business leaders and entrepreneurs, check out his websites at www.life-shifting.com and www.corbusiness.com and look for his recent featured article in the NY Times.

Taichi Chuan is a form of martial arts with a history of thousands of years, originated in China. In the West, Taichi is practiced primarily to improve health and wellness. Many researches including those conducted by the National Institute on Aging and the National institute of Health have shown that Taichi improves balance, coordination, strength and is beneficial to health especially bone health.

A soft martial arts form, Taichi is suitable for all ages. Seemingly nebulous, Taichi is specific and challenging both physically and mentally. Students will learn a series of slow continuous movements executed in a precise manner. Regular practice of Taichi will reap remarkable benefits. Classes will begin with qigong warm up exercises.

The 8 week intensive workshop series will begin January 17 until March 14, with no class on February 14.

Eleanor Yung, licensed acupuncturist has been teaching Taichi Chuan and Qigong for over 10 years, and is currently teaching at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, the Metropolitan Museum, and at the Asian American Arts Centre. <gc:category type="string">Workshop</gc:category>

<gc:about type="string">“You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even wag your tail at this charming documentary.” Los Angeles Times

'A DOG'S LIFE: A DOGAMENTARY' (premiered on HBO/Cinemax, on DVD)
It’s a story about dogs, people and love. This hilarious and poignant documentary explores the positive effects of the intense bond between dogs and humans, as told through the story of Emmy Award winning filmmaker Gayle Kirschenbaum and her dog Chelsea. Chelsea rigged with a “doggie cam” hits the streets of New York with Gayle, both looking for love. But the tragic events of 9/11 alter their quest and we watch Chelsea find her true calling as a therapy dog, finding love through healing others.

* * *  * *
“Dazzling self-confidence” Washington Post

'MY NOSE' 13 minutes long – currently playing festivals worldwide
A humorous look at the complex dynamics of a mother/daughter relationship, My Nose is the filmmaker’s personal story of an unhappy trio - herself, her mother and her nose. Mom thinks the nose is suspect and needs some plastic surgery. Daughter wonders what changing it will do. Will she change, and more importantly, how will changing the organ affect her feelings toward the mother who gave her the apparatus in the first place?

BIOGRAPHY:
Gayle Kirshenbaum is an Emmy award winning filmmaker. She is the creator and star of the documentary MY NOSE, a film festival favorite playing worldwide. MY NOSE is based on Gayle’s experience with her mother, who insisted that her daughter get a nose job since she was 15. Gayle and her mother visit various plastic surgeons in a hilarious adventure where the only augmentation is in the personal relationship between mother and daughter.

Gayle is also the creator and costar (together with Chelsea, her Shih Tzu “dog-ter”) of the critically praised film A DOG’S LIFE: A DOGAMENTARY (www.dogamentary.com) which premiered on HBO and has been featured all over the media. A wacky, poignant documentary about the positive effects of the bond between dogs and humans, A DOG’S LIFE follows Gayle and Chelsea, rigged with a “doggie cam,” through the streets of New York City as they go looking for love. Then 9/11 happens. Chelsea emerges as a healing force as a therapy dog and is crowned New Yorker of the Week when she brings her first person out of a coma.

Gayle co-created the television series JUDGEMENT DAY: SHOULD THE GUILTY GO FREE, whose pilot aired on HBO. Kirschenbaum Productions, LLC is in development on a feature documentary, the feature film LOOK WHO’S TICKING, and several TV series, including BODY PARTS, ANIMAL INTERVENTION, and MELTING POT. Gayle is a founding board member of the Bon Ami Foundation, and has been featured in The New York Times, NBC’s Today Show, CBS’s Early Show, Fox TV, Oxygen TV, the Ladies Home Journal, Washington Post and O Magazine, to name a few.</gc:about>

She practices Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in New York.</gc:about>
